Definition
卡通 (kǎ tōng) is a loanword from English 'cartoon' and broadly refers to animated films or comic strips, as well as a cartoonish style. It is less specific than 动画 (dòng huà, 'animation'), which only covers moving pictures, and 漫画 (màn huà, 'comics'), which only covers static sequential art. Use 卡通 when you mean the general concept or style, and the other two for the specific medium.
