Definition
压制 (yā zhì) means to suppress, stifle, or repress something (feelings, opinions, sounds) through force or authority. It is stronger and more deliberate than 压 (yā), which can also mean 'to press' physically, and differs from 抑制 (yì zhì), which focuses on restraining or inhibiting (often internal or chemical). 取缔 (qǔ dì) is specifically an official ban on illegal activities.
