Definition
吃光 is a verb-resultative compound (动结式) meaning 'to eat until nothing is left'. The resultative complement 光 ('bare, empty') indicates that the action of eating has completely consumed the food. You can use it with or without an object: 把饭吃光 ('eat up the rice') or 吃光了 ('finished eating everything'). It is often used with 了 to mark completion.
