Definition
合 (hé) has three main verb senses: 'close' (窗户合上), 'fit' (合脚), and 'join/combine' (合作). In the 'fit' sense, it differs from 适合 (shìhé), which means 'suit' in a broader, more abstract way. For 'combine', 合 is more general than 结合 (jiéhé), which implies a close integration.
