Definition
吨 (dūn) is a measure word (classifier) for weight, borrowed from 'ton'. It is used with numbers to indicate metric tons (1000 kg). You place the number before 吨 — e.g., 一吨 (yì dūn, one ton), 十吨 (shí dūn, ten tons). It is commonly used with nouns like 货物 (cargo), 大米 (rice), or 煤 (coal). Note: In Taiwan it is sometimes pronounced dùn, but dūn is standard in mainland China.
