Definition
吹牛 (chuī niú) is a colloquial separable verb meaning 'to brag, to boast' — it can split (吹了牛, 吹什么牛). Unlike 夸 (kuā), which can mean 'praise' (others) or 'boast', 吹牛 is only about self-praise. 吹 (chuī) alone can also mean 'boast' but is less common; 吹牛 is the standard phrase.
