因此 (yīn cǐ) is a formal conjunction meaning 'thus, consequently, as a result', used in writing and formal speech. It is more formal than the everyday 所以 (suǒ yǐ) and indicates a logical conclusion, not a narrative sequence (which uses 于是). It is similar to 因而 and 从而 but is the most common of the formal options.
