Definition
因而 (yīn ér) is a formal, written conjunction meaning 'therefore, as a result', used in literary or academic contexts. It is similar to 因此 but more formal; unlike the everyday spoken 所以, it is rarely used in casual conversation. It differs from 于是 (sequential) and 从而 (introducing a further step).
