Definition
大都 (dà dū) is a formal adverb meaning 'mostly, for the most part,' used in writing to indicate a large majority. It is close to 大多 (dà duō), but 大多 is more common in everyday speech; 基本上 (jī běn shàng) has a broader sense of 'basically' rather than a strict quantitative majority.
