Definition
天空 (tiānkōng) is the most general, neutral word for 'sky' as the physical space above us. It is more specific than 天 (tiān), which can also mean 'day' or 'heaven', and more concrete than 空中 (kōngzhōng) 'the air' or 天上 (tiānshàng) 'the heavens above'. Use 天空 for everyday references to the sky as a location or object.
