Definition
太平 (tàipíng) describes large-scale, societal peace — a country, era, or world free from war or upheaval. It is broader than 安静 (ān jìng 'quiet, calm'), which focuses on a lack of noise or disturbance in a place or person. 太平 is also more formal and grand than 平静 (píng jìng), which can apply to both external calm and inner composure.
