Definition
寒冷 describes very cold weather or climate, stronger than the everyday word 冷 and much colder than 凉 (cool). It is more formal/literary than 冷, but not as extreme as 严寒 (bitter cold). Use 寒冷 for winter temperatures, not for objects or people.
