Definition
尚 (shàng) is a formal, literary adverb meaning 'still, yet', used mainly in writing. It is more elevated than 仍然 (réngrán) and 仍 (réng), and often appears in the fixed pattern 尚未 (shàngwèi 'not yet'). As a conjunction, 尚且 (shàngqiě) is used in the '尚且…何况…' pattern meaning 'even... let alone...'.
