Definition
局限 (júxiàn) means 'to confine/restrict within existing boundaries' — used for abstract things like thinking, theory, or development. It differs from 限制 (xiànzhì), which often refers to imposing external limits (rules, quantities). 限于 (xiànyú) is similar but functions as 'be limited to (a scope)', whereas 局限 is a verb that actively sets the boundaries.
