Definition
崇 is a bound form (b.f.) that cannot stand alone as an independent word. It appears as a morpheme in compounds carrying two main senses: 'to esteem, to worship' (as in 崇拜 'to worship, to adore') and 'lofty, high' (as in 崇高 'lofty, sublime'). It also functions as a surname (崇), but that usage is less common at the HSK 7 level. When you see 崇 in a compound, it usually adds a sense of reverence or height.
