Definition
当官 (dāng guān) is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to hold a government post'. The object 官 can split off from 当 when adding time expressions, measure words, or complements — for example, 当了三年官 ('held an official post for three years'). It often carries a neutral or slightly positive tone, but can imply bureaucracy or power distance in context. You do NOT place a direct person after 当官; instead use 当官的人 or the separable pattern.
