Definition
往往 (wǎng wǎng) means 'usually, more often than not' and is used for a repeated pattern or tendency that occurs under certain conditions. Unlike 常常 (cháng cháng) 'often', which describes high frequency in general, 往往 implies a predictable outcome tied to a specific situation or context. It is more formal than 常 and 常常, and less flexible than 通常 (tōng cháng) 'generally', which can also be an adjective.
