Definition
怀念 (huái niàn) means 'to cherish the memory of' — a warm, nostalgic longing for someone or something from the past. Unlike 思念 (sī niàn), which yearns for someone currently far away, 怀念 dwells on fond memories of what is gone. It is more formal and emotionally rich than the everyday 想 (xiǎng, 'to miss').
