急性 (jí xìng) is a medical term meaning 'acute' — it describes a disease or symptom with sudden, rapid onset and a short course. Unlike 激烈 (intense, for pain/competition), 尖 (sharp, for objects/senses), 敏锐 (keen, for insight), or 灵敏 (sensitive, for reactions), 急性 is restricted to medical conditions.
