Definition
手势 (shǒu shì) refers specifically to a hand gesture or hand signal used to communicate meaning, such as waving or pointing. It differs from 信号 (xìn hào), which is a broader term for any signal (traffic lights, electronic signals), and from 符号 (fú hào), which is a static written symbol or mark. 手势 is always a physical hand movement.
