打比方 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to draw an analogy' or 'to use a metaphor'. You can split it as 打一个比方 or 打个比方 when inserting a measure word or other elements. It's often used at the start of a sentence to introduce a comparison, like 'for example' or 'to put it figuratively'. The object of comparison is usually introduced with 像 or 就像.
