Definition
拔河 is the sport of tug-of-war. It can be used as a verb-object (离合词) meaning 'to play tug-of-war'. When used as a verb, it can split to insert aspect markers, measure words, or durations, e.g., 拔了一次河 'had a tug-of-war once' or 拔了两个小时的河 'played tug-of-war for two hours'.
