Definition
挨饿 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to suffer from hunger' or 'to go hungry'. The verb 挨 and the object 饿 can be split when inserting aspect markers such as 过 or 了, or duration phrases, as in 挨过饿 (have gone hungry) or 挨了三天的饿 (suffered hunger for three days). It is intransitive: you cannot put a direct object after it.
