Definition
提成 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to take a commission' or 'to earn a percentage of sales'. The noun 成 (meaning 'ten percent') splits off from the verb 提 when you add a specific percentage, duration, or other element between them — for example, 提了三成 ('took a 30% commission'). It can also be used as a noun meaning 'commission' (the money itself). Be careful: the dictionary gloss 'deduct a percentage' is misleading — 提成 usually refers to the commission you earn, not something taken away from you.
