搜救 (sōu jiù) combines 'search' and 'rescue' into one verb, meaning to actively look for and save people in danger (e.g., after a disaster). It is more specific than 搜 (search only) or 救援/营救 (rescue only), and unlike 搜查 (search with inspection, e.g., for evidence), 搜救 always implies saving lives.
