Definition
摔倒 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to fall down' or 'to trip and fall'. The verb 摔 and the directional complement 倒 can be split when you insert a duration, measure word, or result: 摔倒了 ('fell down'), 摔了一个跟头 ('took a fall'). It can also mean 'to throw someone to the ground' in wrestling or fighting contexts, but the common everyday sense is falling over accidentally.
