Definition
摸索 (mō suǒ) means to fumble or grope, often in the dark or when feeling your way through an unfamiliar situation. It also extends to exploring methods or solutions through trial and error. Compared to 摸 (mō, to touch/grope for something specific), 摸索 emphasizes a process of trial and error; compared to 探索 (tàn suǒ, to explore systematically), it is less formal and more hands-on.
