Definition
显得 (xiǎn de) means 'to seem, look, or appear' based on observable qualities — it's used to describe how someone or something comes across in a situation. Unlike 看来 (kàn lái), which is a sentence-level 'it seems that' (often used to introduce an opinion), 显得 is always followed by an adjective or phrase describing the appearance. It's more concrete than 看似 (kàn sì), which often implies the appearance may be deceptive.
