Comparing 显得 and 看起来

Both 显得 and 看起来 can be translated as 'to seem' or 'to appear'. 显得 often follows an action and emphasizes the impression created by that action, as in '这样做显得你很专业' (Doing this makes you appear professional). 看起来 is more general, used for observations or inferences about something's appearance or state.
