Definition
最为 is a more formal variant of 最 meaning 'the most'. It is used before two-syllable adjectives or verbs in written or formal speech, e.g. 最为重要 ('the most important'), 最为满意 ('most satisfied'). Unlike 最, 最为 rarely appears before single-syllable words and carries a slightly elevated tone.
