Definition
杂交 (zá jiāo) is a technical term in biology for crossbreeding or hybridization between different species or varieties. Unlike 混合 (hùn hé), which means simply mixing things together without genetic crossing, 杂交 implies controlled breeding to produce a hybrid. The word also has a separate, sensitive meaning referring to promiscuity in humans, so context is important.
