Definition
权威 (quánwēi) refers to recognized authority based on expertise or prestige—used for a person or institution that is an authority, or the quality of being authoritative. This differs from 权 (quán) and 权力 (quánlì), which denote power or right to control, not necessarily expertise. 威风 (wēifēng) focuses on an imposing, awe-inspiring external presence, while 权威 is about actual recognized standing.
