板块 (bǎn kuài) refers to a large, plate-like division or segment — such as a tectonic plate, a concrete slab, or a sector/segment of a market or economy. When used for an industry or market sector, it is broader and more abstract than 行业 (háng yè), which specifically means a particular trade or line of business. In geology and construction, it maintains the literal meaning of a flat, solid piece.
