Definition
极为 (jí wéi) is a formal, literary adverb meaning 'extremely', used mainly in written Chinese (news, reports, official documents). It is more formal than 极 (jí, HSK3) and 极其 (jí qí, HSK5), which are also used in speech. Unlike 极, 极为 cannot be used as a suffix (like 好极了).
