标榜 means 'to flaunt' or 'to claim to be (often insincerely)', carrying a negative tone of self-promotion. It differs from 炫耀 (general showing off of possessions/achievements) in that 标榜 often involves asserting a specific status or quality. It also contrasts with neutral 自称 (to call oneself) by its critical connotation.
