Definition
株 (zhū) is a classifier for plants and trees (一棵树 is also possible but 株 is more formal/biological). In biology, it also classifies strains of virus or bacteria. Unlike 枚 (méi), which is for small flat objects, or 桩 (zhuāng), which is for matters/events, 株 is specific to living organisms or their strains.
