段落 (duànluò) is a noun meaning a discrete section of text (paragraph) or a phase/stage of a process. It differs from the classifier 段 (duàn), which counts such sections but is not a noun itself. As a 'phase,' 段落 is similar to 阶段 (jiēduàn) but often implies a more defined, bounded segment rather than a general stage.
