Definition
水门 literally means 'water gate' and refers to a floodgate or water valve used to control water flow. It is also the Chinese term for the Watergate scandal (水门事件), and in modern political discourse can be used as a shorthand for high-level political scandals, following the English pattern of '-gate' suffixes.
