混淆 (hùn xiáo) means 'to confuse, mix up, or blur the boundary between' two or more things — it actively conflates distinct items. Unlike 模糊 (mó hu, 'vague/blur'), which describes a lack of clarity, 混淆 is a verb of mixing; it also differs from 迷惑 (mí huò, 'to puzzle') and 误导 (wù dǎo, 'to mislead'), which affect a person's mind or direction.
