Definition
滞留 (zhìliú) describes being involuntarily stuck somewhere (as a person) or lingering (as a substance). Unlike 停留 (voluntary short stay), 滞留 emphasizes circumstances beyond one's control. For substances, compare with 残留 (cán liú), which is more specific to residues or traces.
