Definition
演绎 (yǎnyì) has three distinct senses: (1) to enact or portray a role/technique in a performance; (2) for a story or event to unfold or play out; (3) in logic, to deduce or infer. Unlike 推断 (tuīduàn) or 推理 (tuīlǐ), which focus on logical reasoning from evidence, 演绎 in the logical sense emphasizes a formal deduction from general principles. In the performance sense, it is more literary than simply 'acting' and implies a creative interpretation.
