Definition
焦急 (jiāojí) means 'anxious and worried' but specifically describes the restlessness and impatience of waiting for something to happen or of an urgent situation. It carries a sense of urgency stronger than 紧张 (jǐnzhāng, general nervousness) and is more temporary and outward-facing than 焦虑 (jiāolǜ, a deeper chronic worry). Use 焦急 when you are fretting because a desired outcome hasn't come yet.
