燃烧 (ránshāo) means 'to burn' and is more formal/literary than the everyday 烧 (shāo), which also covers cooking and heating. Unlike 点燃 (diǎnrán 'to ignite, light'), which focuses on starting a fire, 燃烧 describes the ongoing burning process.
