Definition
独角戏 refers to a performance by a single actor, ranging from a serious monodrama (a full-length one-person play) to a comedic one-man show or stand-up routine. In Chinese theater it is also a specific genre in Shanghai opera and cross-talk-influenced solo comedy. The term carries a strong sense of theatricality: doing something alone, often with an implied audience.
