男人 (nánrén) is the everyday noun for 'man' (an adult male person). Unlike its adjective sibling 男 (nán), which cannot stand alone as a noun, 男人 is the basic term. For a polite or formal reference use 男士 (nánshì 'gentleman') or 男性 (nánxìng 'male gender').
