Definition
皆 (jiē) is a formal, literary adverb meaning 'all, each and every' — it appears in classical-style writing and set phrases, not in everyday speech. It is more formal than 全都 (quán dōu, HSK4), which is the common spoken word for 'all'. Unlike 各 (gè, HSK4), which means 'each' individually, 皆 refers to the whole group collectively.
