Definition
接 (jiē) means to receive or pick up something concrete — like answering a phone, meeting someone, or catching a ball. It differs from 接受 (accept an abstract offer) and 接收 (receive a signal/admit people). For picking up something from the ground, use 捡 (colloquial) or 拾 (formal) instead.
