Definition
看看 is the reduplicated form of 看 (kàn, 'to look'). Verb reduplication in Chinese shortens or lightens the action — 看看 means just a quick or casual look, or 'take a look at'. In colloquial speech, 看看 can also function adverbially to mean 'soon' or 'in a little while', as in 等等,我看看就来 ('Wait, I'll come soon'). This temporal use is a special extension of the reduplication pattern.
