Definition
破产 (pò chǎn) is the standard term for bankruptcy of a company or person, and also for a plan falling through. It differs from 倒闭 (dǎo bì), which specifically means a business closing down due to bankruptcy. For figurative collapse, 破产 is used for plans/schemes, while 崩溃 (bēng kuì) is for mental/system breakdown and 垮 (kuǎ) for physical or structural collapse.
