Definition
石 (dàn) is a historical Chinese unit of dry volume, equal to 10 斗 (roughly 100 liters or a hectoliter). It is still used in classical texts and some agricultural contexts to measure grain. As a bound form, it always appears after a number and before a noun. This is the dàn reading, distinct from the more common shí meaning 'stone'.
